So, you’ve enrolled in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). You’ve found an NDIS provider and worked together on your NDIS plan management. You’ve set your goals and you’re feeling optimistic about the future.
Well, let us start by saying congratulations! By taking these amazing first steps, you’ve empowered yourself to write the next chapters in your story – on your terms.
That said, you might still be wondering how to make the most of your NDIS plan. After all, this plan was designed for you to improve your quality of life. You want to make sure that it does exactly that, right? We completely understand.
We’re here to help you make it happen. Let’s take a look at three simple tips you can follow to make the most of your NDIS plan.
3 Tips on How to Make the Most of Your NDIS Plan
1. Stay Informed
Knowledge is power. So, by keeping up to date on the NDIS and all related areas, you’ll empower yourself to make the most of your NDIS plan.
The NDIS is a complicated system that covers a wide range of supports, equipment, and services. Some of these include accommodation, allied health services, and community participation programs. The NDIS also caters to a wide selection of goals, such as living away from home or finding a job.
Because there are so many layers to the NDIS, it’s important to understand it like the back of your hand. Do your own online research on the NDIS website and speak to your NDIS provider. They will be able to address any questions or concerns you may have around the scheme or your plan
2. Don’t Forget to Review Your Plan
Your needs are ever-changing, so it’s only natural that your plan change with them!
To make sure your plan is working for you, remember to revise it. We suggest reviewing it at the halfway mark so you can see how you’ve been using your NDIS funding amounts and how much you have left. For example, if your plan is set up for one year, then have a look at the six-month mark. If it’s set up for two years, check in at the one-year mark. You get the idea!
Doing so will allow you to see which services are helping you meet your goals. On the flip side, you’ll also be able to see which services you don’t need anymore. It will also allow you to see where your funding is currently going and adjust as needed.
Depending on your NDIS plan management style, you can make revisions independently or with the support of others. The three types of NDIS plan management are:
- Agency Managed
- Self Managed
- Plan Managed
