Understanding SIL
What is Supported Independent
Living under the NDIS?
Supported Independent Living is one of the NDIS's most important funded supports — and one of the most misunderstood. Here's what it actually means for you.
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding that pays for the support workers and clinical staff who help you live as independently as possible in a shared or individual home. It covers the people who support you — not the bricks and mortar. You can live in an MMT Care–managed home (including SDA properties), your family home, or your own rental.
SIL is distinct from SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation), which funds the physical home itself for participants who need highly specialised housing design. Many participants receive both — SIL funding for the support staff, and SDA funding for the accessible property.
SIL in a Shared Home
Live with 1–3 housemates in an MMT Care–managed property. Support workers shared across the household. Social, community-connected living for participants who benefit from company and routine.
In-Home SIL Support
Receive your SIL support in a structured family-home setting — your own home or a family property. Quieter, more personal, with consistent workers who become familiar parts of your day. Learn about In-Home SIL →
SIL in SDA Properties
Specialist Disability Accommodation homes purpose-built for participants with very high physical support needs. MMT Care manages a portfolio of SDA–approved properties across QLD, NSW, and VIC. View vacancies →
Free Registered Nurse in
every SIL placement
Most NDIS providers charge extra for clinical oversight, or don't include it at all. At MMT Care, a Registered Nurse is part of every SIL and SDA team — included in your existing NDIS SIL funding, with no additional plan funding required.
This matters most for participants with complex health needs, behaviour support requirements, or those transitioning from hospital settings where clinical continuity is critical.

We present homes that suit your needs, lifestyle, and location preference. Housemate compatibility is always discussed.

What families & coordinators say
Trusted by participants, carers
and support coordinators
"The registered nurse on the MMT Care team was something no other provider offered us without a significant cost. Having clinical oversight built into the SIL funding gave our family enormous peace of mind."
"As a support coordinator, the housemate matching process MMT Care uses is genuinely thoughtful. I've never had a placement fall apart due to incompatibility — their team takes the time to get it right."
"Living here is the first time I've felt at home since my accident. My support workers know my routine, my likes, and when to give me space. That's what SIL should feel like."
